The Face

Born in 1994 in Franconia, southern Germany, Alex Mader grew up in a family of photographers. This early immersion shaped the formal precision and psychological depth at the core of his visual language. Influenced by American documentary photography and the atmosphere of cinema, his work explores the charged space between people and their environments, a tension that often plays out in stillness, isolation, or quiet resistance.
After studying art history and Slavic literature in Berlin and assisting photographers in the city, he began focusing on his own practice. His images are rooted in narrative structure and emotional restraint, often merging fashion and portraiture in ways that feel both intimate and constructed. Following time spent in New York, he has been based in Paris since 2021.
