Alex Mader

Alex Mader is a Paris-based photographer working across fashion, portraiture, and documentary. Raised in a family of photographers in southern Germany, he studied art history and Slavic literature in Berlin before assisting and developing his independent practice.
Time spent in New York sharpened his interest in American documentary traditions; he has been based in Paris since 2021.
His work operates in the charged space between people and their environments, images that feel simultaneously constructed and overheard. Fashion and portraiture are treated as psychological documents. Strongly influenced cinema and the cadence of street observation, Mader’s photographs tend towards restraint, nocturnal atmosphere, and the moment just before or just after something happens.
